RPM Challenge 2010 Begins Today

In what has now become an established tradition, today marks the beginning of another RPM Challenge. The task is to write, record and produce an entire album in 28 days during the month of February…

Yes indeed, this is the fifth year of the RPM Challenge, and if you haven’t already, you should visit the site now and sign up.

This is not a competition, it’s a creative challenge – one that you can share with thousands of other musicians around the world. Between today and March 1st, you can create an entire album – so why not do it?

Creative Deadlines

The point of the challenge is not to create perfection, but to actually complete a project – something that many musicians have great difficulty with under normal circumstances. With unlimited time at your disposal, there’s always the temptation to keep revisiting your mixes, adding and subtracting parts, tweaking EQ and compressor settings in a never-ending stream of second-guessing.

The RPM Challenge does away with a lot of this indecision. At the end of the month, you will have an album – it may not be great (or maybe it will), but at least it will be done. And there’s no way that you can make an album without learning something valuable about yourself and your music…so get to it!
