Hitler’s Downfall Engineered By Digidesign

In what has become a popular Web 2.0 meme, another re-subtitled version of the classic bunker scene from the movie ‘Downfall’ has emerged. This time around, Adolf is somewhat upset that the market share of superior Steinberg audio recording products is being eroded by Pro Tools…

Underneath The Bunker

Given the delicate subject matter (of the original movie, rather than the updated subtitles – unless you are very sensitive about which DAW you use), it is possible that some people might find this sort of parody offensive. A Brave New Meme?

This video is nothing new conceptually – if you look on YouTube, you will see a whole range of versions of this scene featuring vastly differing subtitles, with the subject matter stretching from dating to sports. However, this is a very good example of both viral media and Web memes.

A meme is basically ‘that which is imitated’. We see memes all around us every day, from using forks and knives to wearing a tie. Generally speaking, if an idea is good it has a better chance of being imitated than one that isn’t – but that doesn’t necessarily mean that all memes are good.
